As some of you may remember, one of my resolutions for 2014 was to eat less processed food. Back in the day, eating healthy to me was just watching my calorie intake or point intake. I didn’t care what nutrients I got so long as I met the (always too low and leaving me hungry) limit. I filled my day with Smart Ones, Lean Cuisines, cereal, sugar free jello, popcorn, fat free this, sugar free that, and more fillers than you can imagine. I was always hungry. Always.
The reason I have come to learn is that I wasn’t eating a balanced diet. Your body needs fat for satiety. It needs protein to build muscle. And despite every Hollywood your body does need carbohydrates!
The solution to the issue is the portions of these infamous macronutrients. I regularly refer to My Fitness Pal it to make sure that I am close to meeting my goals for each nutrient.

Of course there are often fluctuations in the measurements from day to day but I like to stick close to the goals to ensure that I am meeting the needs of my body.
This all relates back to clean eating because I have found that when I fill those macros with whole, less processed, and easily defined foods I am more satisfied. Healthy living is a journey that is never finished and I am always learning. Luckily I have amazing friends that love to support me! In fact, one of my best friends gave me an early birthday present of Clean Eating’s Magazine subscription! I love that my friends want to help and support me in my journey and interests. I am looking forward to continuing this learning process and filling my body with real food as often as possible.
Please note that I don’t plan to eat clean 100% of the time. It is a goal for me and it would be unrealistic to expect that. I live by the 80/20 rule so that 80% of the time I eat whole and real and natural but I do allow for splurges, like nachos! Duh!
I read this article the other day and found it really helpful. For me eating 100% clean is a little extreme but it is a learning process I plan to begin.
I think eating real food is the best way to continue my journey. It is not right for everyone and I am not a dietician. I am just letting you know what has been working for me! 🙂
